A £10.8 million project to renovate Margate Pumping Station promises to improve the reliability of the site for the benefit of customers and the local environment.

The works included an overhaul of screening equipment, boosts to electronic control systems, and the replacement of machinery reaching the end of their life - including huge 40-year-old Archimedes Screw pumps.

Margate Pumping Station is on a stretch of Kent coastline which is a very popular tourist destination. This is why is was so important that Southern Water invested in these essential upgrades to build resilience of the site moving forward.

Southern Water’s Project Manager, Sunday Odusola said:

“We’re focusing on investing in infrastructure improvements and the works at Margate Pumping Station is one of many ways we’re seeking to improve our environmental performance and make a positive difference across our region.

“The collaboration effort between ourselves and our delivery partner made it possible for the project to be completed with minimal disruptions to the residents. Thank you to the local community for all their co-operation during the essential works.”
